Tata Motors will unveil a new compact car, PIXEL based on its micro-car Nano platform exclusively for the European market at the 81th Geneva car show on Tuesday. The three door Gull Winged -(doors that open towards the sky) small car currently at concept stage will be an experimental model for the European market will come under the all new brand. It is expected to have Nano dimension of size, which are a little over 3 metres, but will have much larger interiors and design developed keeping in mind the much demanding European customers in mind.
Tata Motors executive at the Geneve Motor Show confirmed the unveiling of the car by its Chairman Ratan Tata but refused to divulge any details.
"Its one of the most promising car from the Company is all I can say," said a senior organizer for Tata Motors at its stall at the Geneva Motor Show. Tata Motors executives at the Motor Show neither confirmed or deny the unveiling of PIXEL by its Chairman Ratan Tata.
The car is expected to be very different from the five door, Nano Europa that the company had earlier showcased as a variant of Nano to be developed for US and Europe. It like the PIXEL was expected to confirm to stringent safety and emission norms of these developed markets, which Nano currently does not meet. The company had earlier planned to bring the Nano to Europe in 2011 and had shown Europa in 2009 as the possible export variant.
According to organizers at the Motor Show, the company is yet to make any official announcement about the power train of the car, and other specifications including the possible price or tentative date for launching the car in Europe. Sources in Tata Motors say that the compact car was designed with the idea of lot of space specifically for the European market and customers.
Pixel is a 'concepr car' engineered to maximum interior space and may enter the European market in 2013. Tata Motor's Nano is an ultra cheap and bears the lowest price tag in the world.
The cheapest variant comes at the ex-showroom price of Rs 1.3 lakh in New Delhi.
