‘Dead Island’ to Become a Movie

A trailer for a new video game called Dead Island became an instant Internet sensation. The video on YouTube has gotten 1.6 million views so far. It hit a nerve because unlike most video game ads that feature bland-faced soldiers blowing up zombies or army guys, this one told a really sad story about a little girl getting turned into a zombie while on vacation.
I know that sounds ridiculous but as a mother of two little kids I was almost crying watching the video. It is upsetting to see the parents react to their little girl getting attacked by zombies. (The video shows the sequence in reverse.) I’m sure I’m not the only one. My colleague Paul Tassi called the Dead Island trailer  is "beautiful"and "tragic".
That kind of emotional response  is the kind of thing Hollywood is dying for. HitFix  is reporting that producer Sean Daniel has already bought the rights to the as-yet unreleased game based on the strength of the trailer alone. Daniel is best known for The Mummy series from Universal.
According to HitFix, the stuff in the trailer isn’t actually part of the game which takes the fighting-zombies genre and gives it a twist by setting the attack on a resort island where players have to use what they find to try and fend off the undead. The game, for XBox and PlayStation has been delayed several times but is expected to be released later this year.
It sounds like good fun. Hopefully the movie will be heavy on zombie killing and light of tragedies involving little girls.
