Infosys techie commits suicide in Hyderabad

A 23-year-old female software engineer working with Infosys at Gachibowli in Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide on Friday by jumping from a multi-storied building in her office campus, police said.Sahitya Vyasam, employed with Infosys since 2009, jumped from the fourth floor of the building of the six storied parking lot and died on her way to a nearby hospital, Raidurgam Inspector of Police M. Ravichandan Reddy said.

Sahitya walked across the campus to the building that houses the parking lot, which remains guarded on every alternate floor. Sahitya made her way to the unmanned fourth floor of the building and leapt to her death. In the process, the victim hit a construction worker, identified as Lamodar Rao, who sustained injuries to his spine. Her family and friends are shocked and clueless as to why Sahitya took this extreme step.

The police have taken her laptop and sim card to investigate her death. Sahitya was a resident of LB Nagar, the police officer said, adding that further investigations are on. When asked if any suicide note was found, Reddy said the case was in preliminary stage of investigation and reasons for her resorting to the extreme step were still not known. Sahitya's body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital mortuary for conducting postmortem, Reddy said.

An Infosys statement said on Saturday, "We are saddened by the demise of our employee at our Hyderabad office. As per current information, it appears that the employee jumped off the multi-level car park. Her fall injured a contractual worker below (on the ground), who is currently in hospital under examination."

"Infosys will provide all necessary support to the family of the deceased in their hour of grief. We continue to offer our cooperation and support to the police in their investigation," the statement added.
