How to stay happy and content in love

Build a long-term relationship, get healthier mentally...

In a relationship for more than five years? You are likely to be happier than those in shorter ones. According to a study by the University of Otago, New Zealand, those in relationships for longer than five years, even if not married are less likely to be depressed, attempt suicide or be dependent on alcohol or drugs.

At 30, 16% who were not in a relationship showed symptoms of depression along with 23% who had been in a relationship for less than two years.

"Interestingly, whether the couple was married or cohabiting did not make a difference," says lead researcher Sheree Gibb.
